Book Review: World Polymer Banknotes

World Polymer Banknotes Three Malaysian enthusiasts Eu, Chiew and Chee have combined to produce a well planned and presented and comprehensive priced catalogue styled “World Polymer Banknotes – A Standard Reference. First Edition.” In full colour with 200 conveniently sized pages, it issued in June 2005.

Each country is covered in the order of issue. Some may be surprised to see that Australia is not first however the experimental and ultimately unsuccessful tyvek issues of the American Bank Note Co for Haiti, Costa Rica and the Isle of Man of the early 1980’s take precedence. In all 26 countries are covered.

At first glance it may be a little confusing as each country is dealt with twice. In the first instance, generous sized illustrations of the back and front of each note feature along with a description and background information of the country and of the issue.

In the second instance, varieties are covered in considerable detail, including most Australian varieties. Smaller colour photos of each note are included here also so there can be no confusion as to which note is being addressed. Issued notes, first and last prefixes, uncut sheets and folder items are covered where appropriate. For some issues, this information is simply not available; on occasions there are some omissions.

Pricing is in United States Dollars in order to appeal to the wider international market. There are some inconsistencies here. However by and large this is a very well researched book with solid information on many issues not previously available in the printed form.

At AUD 25.00 plus postage it is an essential and worthwhile addition to any library.
