On Tuesday, December 3, 2024, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) announced the issuance of its first complete Philippine polymer banknote series!

This was announced in a social media post. The BSP stated that the new polymer banknotes will be released in the first quarter of 2025 and will circulate alongside the existing paper banknotes.

While the paper banknotes feature the country's heroes and natural wonders, the polymer series showcases the country's rich biodiversity. "Featuring different symbols of national pride in our banknotes and coins reflects numismatic dynamism and artistry and promotes appreciation of the Filipino identity," the BSP said.

In April 2022, the BSP began circulation of its new and improved 1000-piso polymer banknote, the bank's first circulating, polymer banknote. This note features the Philippine Eagle and the Sampaguita on the obverse and Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park, South Sea Pearl and T’nalak weave design on the reverse.

More information and images of the new banknotes will be published here when available.
