On Thursday, April 4, 2024 the Central Bank of Trinidad & Tobago (CBTT) announced that it will update its 100-dollar polymer banknote by the end of this calendar year.

The updated 100-dollar banknote will be similar to the one in the 2019 series, currently in circulation, but it will include additional security features.

The banknote was the first to be issued in the phased transition from cotton-based notes to the updated polymer series, which also comes in 1-dollar, 5-dollar, 10-dollar, 20-dollar and 50-dollar denominations.

Key security features of the polymer notes include clear windows that can be seen from the front and back, areas with shimmering gold ink, the banknote denomination in colored ink when held up to the light, and tactile dots to assist the visually impaired.

The CBTT has said that since the introduction of the 100-dollar banknote in 2019, the durability of a polymer substrate, as compared to the previous cotton-based currency, has been demonstrated.
