A new family of polymer banknotes entered circulation in the Maldives on January 26, 2016.

It comprised six denominations:

- 10 rufiyaa
- 20 rufiyaa
- 50 rufiyaa
- 100 rufiyaa
- 500 rufiyaa
- 1,000 Rufiyaa.

 

 

All of these banknotes are dated 5 October 2015 and carry the signature of Azeema Adam, Governor of the MMA (Maldives Monetary Authority), who served as governor 2014-2017. The MMA is the central bank of the Republic of Maldives and was established on July 1, 1981.

 

A 5-rufiyaa banknote was added to the family in 2017, dated 10 May 2017, carrying the signature of Azeema Adam as well.

 

New dates have already been reported for the:

- 10-rufiyaa banknote, dated 10 March 2018, changeover prefix "D", new signature: Ahmed Naseer, Governor of the MMA, who served as governor 2017-2019.

- 100-rufiyaa banknote, dated 10 March 2018, changeover prefix "C", new signature: Ahmed Naseer, Governor of the MMA, who served as governor 2017-2019.

 

 

A new 20-rufiyaa banknote was issued on March 10, 2022 and is now available for illustration. The banknote is dated 1 July 2020 and carries the signature of Ali Hashim, present Governor of the MMA (2019-). The changeover prefix for the new date is "C".
