The East Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) has been awarded the prestigious "Bank Note of the Year Award 2023" by the International Bank Note Society.

15 banknotes were nominated for this award, 6 of which are 100% polymer. The winner and overwhelming favorite was the 2-dollar banknote issued in the East Caribbean states on December 6, 2023.

The 2-dollar banknote was printed by De La Rue (on the Safeguard® substrate produced by De La Rue). The commemorative banknote honors both the 40th anniversary of the ECCB, which was established on October 1, 1983, and Sir I. V. A. Richards, an Antiguan retired cricketer who represented the West Indies cricket team between 1974 and 1991. The banknote is vertically oriented and slightly smaller than the other polymer banknotes in circulation in the East Caribbean states. This is the first $2 banknote that the ECCB has ever issued.
