On August 29, 2025, Bank of Thailand Governor Sethaput Suthiwartnarueput announced the launch of more durable and secure 50- and 100-baht banknotes, with the new currency expected to enter circulation on November 21, 2025.

Citing the successful launch of the 20-baht polymer banknote, which lasts an average of four times longer than paper, he noted that the move would significantly cut production costs and resource use. The bank expects to reduce the number of new banknotes needed to replace damaged ones by at least 350 million per year. The new polymer banknotes will retain the overall design of the current paper versions: King Maha Vajiralongkorn (Rama X) on the front and on the back, the 50-baht note honors Kings Rama III & Rama IV, while the 100-baht note features Kings Rama V & Rama VI.
Enhanced anti-counterfeiting measures will be included in the new polymer banknotes, including transparent windows, an embossed numeral within the window, and special color-shifting ink that changes color when the note is tilted.

The new notes will also feature enhanced tactile features for the visually impaired. They will include a tactile embossed symbol in Braille to indicate the denomination and raised slanted lines on both edges, making the notes easier to identify by touch. The 50-baht polymer banknote measures 72mm x 144mm. The 100-baht polymer banknote measures 72mm x 150mm.
