On Monday, November 10, 2025, the Bank of England made an interesting post at Facebook and Instagram:
"Our current Chief Cashier, Victoria Cleland, looks at the latest run of £20 notes featuring her signature. These notes are gradually beginning to enter circulation.
"She's responsible for making sure that our banknotes have the latest anti-counterfeiting technology and that there are enough banknotes in circulation.
"The role has been around since 1694 when notes were signed by hand.
"Check your banknotes, who signed them?"
Victoria Cleland is the current Chief Cashier and Executive Director of Payments. In March 2025, it was announced that Cleland had been re-appointed Chief Cashier of the Bank of England, replacing Sarah John, who was appointed the Bank of England's Chief Operating Officer. Cleland was previously the Bank's Chief Cashier from 2014 to 2018. She now combines the role of Chief Cashier with her Executive Director responsibilities.
